Iranian strike was shortly before the US plan to escort commercial ships out of Middle East Gulf was put on hold

One seafarer was severely injured in the Iranian attack on a CMA CGM container ship in the hours before President Donald Trump shelved his plan to get trapped ships out of the Middle East Gulf, according to security officials.

Eight seafarers were flown to hospital after the attack on the 2,824-teu San Antonio (built 2005) as it was attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s approval.
