A container ship which left port with a defective navigation chart, causing it to be grounded, was “unseaworthy” for the purposes of the Hague Rules relating to carriers’ liability, notwithstanding that the error was a navigational fault by the crew, with the result that the shipowners could not claim general average against the cargo interests for the costs of the salvage operation.
