As the nation starts to recover from the aftermath of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the movement control order, shipping lines and shippers are clashing over what seems to be inherent problems in the industry.
Indian ship worker Tejasvi Duseja is desperate to go home after months stranded offshore by coronavirus border closures and lockdowns that have left more than 200,000 seafarers in limbo.
India’s directorate general of shipping ruled on Friday to allow foreign seafarers to sign off at Indian ports and then to take flights out of the country.
The ruling relates to cargo ships, not cruise vessels.
