Inquirer Breaking News - Fri, 12/20/2019 - 05:20
One of the few teams in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League that has a traveling support group, the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards hardly felt like the away team on Wednesday night at Olivarez College Gym in Paraaque City. With their playoff hopes on the line, the Vanguards also made sure the nearly 500 fans who filled the seven buses that traveled from Palayan City were returning home with a victory. "Even when we're playing against the home team, we don't feel uncomfortable because our supporters are also there," said Nueva Ecija forward Zags Gonzaga after he scored 21 points to lead the Vanguards to an 85-81 victory over hosts Paraaque Patriots in the Chooks to Go MPBL Lakan S...

It was reported in November that 50-year-old stockbrokerage R&L was hit by a P700-million stock theft involving a rouge settlement clerk, Marlo Moron, who perpet...

Best of Theater 2019

Inquirer Breaking News - Fri, 12/20/2019 - 05:10
One major limitation of print publications is the availability of space in any given issue. It is for this reason that the final section of our annual theater roundup, published last Dec. 14, included only our top choices for every design and technical category. But the designers, writers and musicians are just as essential to any theater production as the directors and actors we recognized last week. What follows, then, is part two of our Best of Theater 2019. Of the 88 fully staged productions we saw in Manila this year, here are the names and works that left a most indelible impression: In lighting design, Aaron Porter produced the year's finest work with his psychedelic evocati...

PSEi falls by 1.03% on heavy foreign selling

Inquirer Breaking News - Fri, 12/20/2019 - 05:08
Beleaguered water concessionaire Manila Water rebounded by 13.14 percent on Thursday, bucking the overall decline in the index, on signals that the water contracts would not be revoked as what President Duterte earlier threatened to do so. This was even as the main-share Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) slumped by 79.73 points or 1.03 percent to close at 7,653.94 on heavy foreign selling. MWC is not part of the local stock barometer. Despite the rebound in the past two trading days, its closing price of P7.75 was still much lower than the P18.98 finish on Dec. 2 before Mr. Duterte expressed his wrath over MWC and fellow concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. At the lo...
