Inquirer Breaking News - Sun, 02/23/2020 - 13:27
Emanuel Navarrete dominated Jeo Santisima on the way to an 11th-round technical knockout Sunday (Manila time) to retain his World Boxing Organization super bantamweight world title. Mexico's Navarrete made his fifth defense of the crown in convincing style against the Filipino challenger, who was a heavy underdog fighting for a world title for the first time. After a conservative start, Navarrete began to ramp up the pressure in the third round. Santisima managed to back Navarrete into a corner in the fourth, but the champion unloaded on him in a big fifth round, rocking Santisima with a left hook. Navarrete had Santisima in trouble again in the 10th and finally finished ...

"This is about me for sure, but this is about all of us at the same time --- the city of Miami, teammates over the years, everyone who has sacrificed, rooted and cried. We all did this together. Heat retire Wade’s jersey, rout Cavs

Inquirer Breaking News - Sun, 02/23/2020 - 13:10
MIAMI --- The Miami Heat played so well early they didn't need a halftime meeting, which was exactly the plan. In a worthy warmup for Dwyane Wade's jersey retirement ceremony, the Heat broke a 23-year-old franchise record for points in the first half en route to a 124-105 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday. Miami shot 77% in the first half and then turned the stage over to Wade, whose No. 3 jersey was hoisted to the rafters. "I just wanted to make sure we played well enough in the first half we didn't need to necessarily meet," coach Erik Spoelstra said, "because I wanted to enjoy halftime, and I wanted our players to be out there and see it." The ceremony w...

Wilder-Fury heavyweight rematch unpredictable

Inquirer Breaking News - Sun, 02/23/2020 - 12:15
Styles make fights, leading a lot of people in boxing to think the second heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will be like the first. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, because Wilder and Fury put on a show the first time they met in a dramatic fight that ended in a draw. Evander Holyfield and Riddick Bowe put on great fight when they met in November 1992, the first of what would be three fights between the two heavyweights. Bowe came on strong in the late rounds to take the title from Holyfield in a...
