MANILA – The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has temporarily suspended the processing of Seafarer's Identification and Record Book (SIRB) and Seafarer's Identification Document (SID) applications nationwide after its systems were hit by a cyberattack.
In a public service announcement, MARINA said the cyberattack occurred on Tuesday, and the systems remain suspended as of Wednesday.
The agency said it immediately initiated corrective and security measures in coordination with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and systems providers to secure the infrastructure, protect database integrity, and safely restore normal operations.
Seafarers with immediate deployment requirements may visit any MARINA SID/SRB Processing Center for expedited appointments.
MARINA also assured that confirmed regular appointments affected by the downtime will be honored and rescheduled without additional cost once the system is restored.
The agency thanked the public for their patience and understanding amid the disruption. (PNA)
