ONE Filipino seafarer was killed following the attack on the M/V Minoan Dignity while plying the Strait of Hormuz on August 17, 2026, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
In a statement, the DMW said the other 17 Filipino crew members of the Liberia-flagged bulk carrier survived the attack and were safely repatriated on August 21. They arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 aboard Emirates Flight EK334.
“Although the 17 Filipino crew members returned home safely, one Filipino seafarer died in the incident,” said the DMW.
The department said all the seafarers received financial assistance from the DMW AKSYON Fund and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
They also underwent initial health assessments by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Medical Team.
