A vessel almost sank while trying to reach Muara Baru Port in North Jakarta on Tuesday after being adrift at sea for 10 days.

Thousand Islands Transportation Agency head Robert Edward said holes began appearing in the hull of the Makmur Timur, which carried a crew of 13, on July 28 while it was sailing in the Java Sea.

"It almost capsized in the Java Sea. They [the people] spent 10 days adrift at sea," he said as reported by kompas.com.

It was eventually found by the Mahkota Jaya, which towed it into Muara Baru Port where it almost sank.

Another boat from the agency came to the rescue of the Makmur Timur and towed it safely to port.

All 12 crew members and the captain on the Makmur Timur have reportedly been ferried to safety. (vla)
