Myanmar hosts World Maritime Day

World Maritime Day 2018 was celebrated at Rose Garden in Yangon on September 10.

International Maritime Organisation holds World Maritime Day every year in its member countries to be able to take systematic measures for security, safety and protection of the maritime environment.

This year's event was hosted by Myanmar, and present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications Tha Oo, departmental heads and local and foreign guests from the maritime field.

"With regard to maritime education and training as well as standards and qualifications necessary for seamen, Myanmar is working in accord with the STCW Convention (the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers). Myanmar stood fourth on IMO White List in 2017. This year also, the country was successful in the first test conducted by IMO where we are working in accord with the IMO convention under IMO Member State Audit Scheme. We have adopted action plans to continue to implement the findings and reviews.

This year's theme of World Maritime Day is "IMO 70: Our Heritage—Better Shipping for a Better Future.

During the event, the video message sent by the IMO Secretary General and the video on Myanmar's maritime activities were show with Powerpoint presentation.
