NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Oct. 5 (PIA) -- The recently inaugurated Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) extension office in Bacolod City is seen to benefit Negrense seafarers.
MARINA-6 Regional Director Engineer Rizal Victoria, who welcomed the guests during the launching, cited that maritime practitioners need not to go to Manila to process and take the Deck and Engine Licensure Examinations.
The office will also serve as a training and research center for the maritime industry.
Meanwhile, Representative Jesulito Manalo of Angkla Partylist conveyed his appreciation to Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. for allotting an area at the Provincial Government property in Panaad Park to house the MARINA extension office.
Manalo likewise said that the Angkla Partylist envisions the Philippines to become a maritime nation through the collaboration of the local government units (LGUs) and officials.
For his part, Gov. Marañon recognized Manalo for being instrumental in bringing maritime services of the government in the countryside.
Marañon added that the provincial government has been providing scholarship grants to students who want to pursue a maritime profession.
MARINA is an attached agency of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) responsible for integrating the development, promotion and regulation of the maritime industry in the country. (LTP/LML-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
