General cargo ship SAM BO II collided with unidentified cargo ship, at around 0530 LT Oct 5 south of Penghu island’s Lungmen Harbor. SAM BO II sustained serious damages in portside bow area, including huge dents and probably breaches, and lost anchor. The ship was able to reach her destination, Lungmen Harbor, under own power. SAM BO II was loaded with merchandise, she’s a cargo shuttle connecting Penghu islands with mainland Taiwan. Freighter which struck SAM BO II didn’t stop and sail away, Taiwanese CG said that most probably, it’s a Panama-flagged 20,000-ton cargo ship, no other details given. Investigation under way.
