CHED-Maritime Education Section awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification

QUEZON CITY, Dec. 19 -- The Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Maritime Education Section (MES) has been awarded the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 by the independent third party certification body Anglo-Japanese American (AJA) Registrars.

Officially registered on December 6, 2018 to December 5, 2021, the three-year quality management system certification covers the administration of:

The development, revision and implementation of the Policies, Standards and Guidelines (PSGs) in Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMARE) Programs in line with national and international standards; and the

Monitoring and Evaluation of BSMT and BSMARE offerings of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in compliance with set standards and issuance of Certificate of Compliance or sanctions.

“This latest ISO certification is a testament to CHED’s continued commitment to quality assurance and compliance to national and international standards, particularly in the area of Maritime Education. It will also ensure that the competencies of our seafarers, through the joint efforts of CHED and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) are continuously met and improved,” beams CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III.

The MES previously earned certification under ISO 9001:2008 in December 2015 and has been audited and registered annually by AJA Registrars.

The MES is under the Division of Programs with International Conventions (DPIC) of CHED’s Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) and have previously earned ISO 9001:2008 certification in December 2015. They have since been audited and registered annually by the AJA Registrars. (CHED)
