THE John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University recently inaugurated its first training ship, M/V John B. Lacson.

Leading the historic ceremony were Dr. Mary Lou Lacson-Arcelo, JBLFMU president emeritus; and her son and JBLFMU CEO, Dr. Ronald Lacson Sebastian along with ship Capt. Vicente Fedelicio, chairman of the university affiliate JBL Maritime Vanguard Inc.

Also gracing the event were Iloilo City Mayor Joe Espinosa III, DOT-6 Regional Director Helen Catalbas and Iloilo City Tourism Officer Junel Ann Divinagracia

Capt. Vicente Fedelicio said the ship is equipped with the latest technology for hands-on training of maritime education students. It can also cater to hotel and restaurant management students for onboard training.

Dr. Mary Lou Lacson-Arcelo the training ship is the realization of the vision of her father and JBLFMU founder, Capt. John B. Lacson.

From its humble beginnings as Iloilo Maritime Academy, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University is now the golden standard in quality maritime education.

“John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University is the first maritime institution to earn the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) Level IV re-accredited status. It is also the first to establish a maritime high school in the Philippines; the first to publish a maritime education review; the first to be granted the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency Program (ETEEAP) for Maritime Education in the country; and the first maritime university in the Philippines to become a member of the esteemed International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU). It has also gained the international accreditation, ISO 9001 Bureau Veritas Certification,” said JBLFMU CEO Dr. Ronald Lacson Sebastian.

A gleaming dinner party on MV John. B Lacson’s dining hall and tons of musical and dance entertainment highlighted the historic celebration.

Cheers!
