Fire erupted in engine room of cargo ship HALA B, anchored at Chioggia anchorage, Italy, Adriatic sea, in the evening Feb 26. Firefighters boarded the ship but couldn’t do much, because of faulty ship’s firefighting equipment. Fire spread around and judging from photos, engulfed superstructure, so it was decided to evacuate all 18 crew. All are safe. Ship said to be loaded with wood, tugs were deployed, situation unclear as of morning Feb 27. Understood firefighters were concerned mostly with restricting fire area, to prevent fire from spreading to cargo.
