AMSA eyes legal action over cargo ship disaster

Nine months after more than 80 container ships went overboard from cargo ship YM Efficiency, authorities are still dealing with the clean-up.

The disaster saw beaches near Newcastle and up the NSW coast lined with debris from the containers, including plastic and even car parts.

Fishermen have also been affected, with some areas becoming too dangerous to work in.

Meanwhile, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority has revealed its frustration in dealing with the owner and its insurance companies to try and fix the mess and that its eyeing legal action against the owner.
