Transport authorities are planning to issue seaman books and passports for 179 lady seafarers to work officially in international cruise ships this month, sources said.

More seaman identifications for female sailors, who are currently working in international cruise ships, will be issued in line with rules and regulations.

It is a very sensitive issue as they have to wait for the approval from Transport Department to work and recognized officially as seafarers.

“Actually Myanmar lady seafarers are already working in international cruise ships. We want to protect them with rules and regulations. They need seaman books and passports. They are unable to disembark or other problems such as salary. We will issue seaman books and passports for 179 lady seafarers before they begin working,” said San Oo, Chairman of Myanmar Seafarer Employment Services Federation.
