A Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) minesweeper collided with a Japanese cargo ship in the Seto Inland Sea off the coast of Hiroshima Prefecture on 27 June, a JMSDF spokesperson told Jane’s .

No injuries were reported among the 41 crew members aboard the minesweeper and the five crew on the cargo ship, he added.

The incident occurred about midnight on 27 June about 1.5 km northeast of Kone Island as Sugashima-class minesweeper JS Notojima (with pennant number MSC 682) was heading to a JMSDF base at the city of Kure (Hiroshima Prefecture).
