Ship crew member yields firearms, ammo in Northern Samar

POLICE nabbed on Wednesday, October 2, a ship crew member after firearms and ammunition were found inside his cabin at Sta. Clara Port in Allen, Northern Samar.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jhunry Manulat, 40, single, second mate of M/V Nathan Matthew and a resident of Poblacion, Danao, Cebu City.

The Allen Municipal Police, led by Executive Master Sergeant Nathaniel Sta. Ana, together with the Philippine Coast Guard based in Allen led by Petty Officer 3 Bernie Madrid, and Northern Samar Police Provincial Investigation Bureau, led by Corporal Jess Samuel Miranda, arrested Manulat after conducting a routine inspection inside the boat's premises around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 2.

Confiscated were one caliber .45 pistol, one 357 Magnum revolver, two magazines for caliber .45 pistol, 31 rounds of caliber .45 pistol live ammunition, 33 rounds of caliber .9mm live ammunitions, six rounds of caliber .38 revolver live ammunition, two rounds of caliber .22 live ammunition, two optical sights, and one gun suppressor.

The suspect will be facing violation of Republic Act 10591 or the "Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act." (SunStar Philippines)
