8 rescued after cargo ship sinks off Vietnam

MRCC Vietnam called for vessels to assist the cargo ship BINH NGUYEN 86, which activated its Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), 40 nautical miles of Ha Tinh Province coast, Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam.

The general cargo ship BINH NGUYEN 86 activated his EPIRB at around 03 am local time on February 23, 40 nm off Ha Tinh Province coast, Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam.

MRCC Vietnam immediately ordered vessels near the ship to go the area where the incident happened, including a Vietnamese container ship, which was heading from Haiphong to Vung Tau.

When the container ship arrived on the area, it deployed two life rafts, rescuing 8 people. After that, it continued its course, with the rescued crewmember onboard, before the disembark on Vung Tau.

All of the crewmembers of the sunk cargo ship were rescued, while the cause of the accident is not known yet.
