Seafarers and their families will soon have access to government hospital facilities, among other welfare assistance, following a Memorandum of Agreement signed between Marino Party-list and the Associated Marine Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (Amosup) on Tuesday, January 19.

The agreement, signed at the House of Representatives before House Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco, formalized the cooperation between the two groups in enhancing welfare services to the Filipino seafarers and their families.

This includes livelihood and training assistance for seafarers who have lost their jobs, financial and other assistance for their families in case of emergencies, through the Marino Action Center of the party-list, if they can no longer be accommodated by Amosup hospitals and other facilities.

rading their skills and training and improving the health and welfare of their families. The Marino Party-list wishes to reach out to their members and ensure that they have access to government help if they need it. We all know that the seafaring industry is one of the hardest hit sectors of the Covid-19,” Marino Partylist Representative Sandro Gonzalez said.

“We are excited for the opportunity to work with the representative of seafarers in Congress. We hope that this will be the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership that will extend to advocating legislation which the sector desperately needs,” says Amosup President Dr. Conrado F. Oca.

Gonzalez also announced the filing of House Resolution No. 01473 which seeks to give priority to seafarers in the national vaccination program against Covid-19.

“Amosup’s leadership and I talked about these concerns from the seafarers and how we could better address the same moving forward. I am happy that I share the same enthusiasm as the Amosup in ensuring that all these concerns of our constituents do not fall on deaf ears nor blind eyes,” said Gonzalez.
