UK forms new team to support advancement in maritime sector
28 March 2018

The Government of UK has appointed a new team of experts who are expected to offer advice on the development of the country’s maritime sector.

The newly appointed Maritime 2050 expert panel will work with the industry to ensure that the UK stays at the forefront of global shipping in future with the use of new technologies such as autonomous ships and digital ports.

To be chaired by RenewableUK chief executive Hugh McNeal, the panel will comprise several academic and industry leaders, including Port of Tyne chairman Lucy Armstrong, BMT Group chief executive Sarah Kenny, among others.

UK Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: “The success of the UK depends on our shipping – it helps put food in our cupboards and fuel in our vehicles.

“We want to maintain our position as a world-leading maritime nation and working with the experts from within maritime, as well as those with broader experience, will help us ensure we take every opportunity open to this vital sector.”
