The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People (CBCP-ECMI) assured seafarers and their families of prayers and support as it paid tribute to their sacrifices and hard work.

Balanga, Bataan Bishop Ruperto C. Santos, vice chairman of the CBCP-ECMI said goods are transported around the world through the efforts of seafarers.

“Our hardworking and honest seafarers bring the goods to us. Let us be ever grateful to our seafarers for making our Christmas merry. Let us appreciate their services and sacrifices that we have food to partake, gifts to give; items to use, to wear and to share through their efforts,” said Bishop Santos over Radio Veritas.

The Church leader cited the seafarers for their sacrifices of working even during the holiday season to provide for the needs of their families. He encouraged them to pray fervently for the Lord’s guidance and protection.

“To our dear seafarers who are home, please make this Christmas season a grace-filled occasion to connect and re-connect, to renew and to reconcile with God and with your families. To our dear seafarers who have work, please rest assured of our prayers and Holy Masses for your safety and sound health.” Bishop Santos said.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration said there are about 220,000 Filipino seafarers working in different parts of the world.
