Singaporean Bunker Vessel Collides With Chinese Fishing Boat, 8 Crew Missing

PEARL KENZO, a bunker vessel recently registered with Singapore, collided with a Chinese fishing boat, whose eight crew members were reported missing.

The incident happened on December 26, about a week ago, while the bunker ship was travelling from Penglai, in Northern China, to Zhoushan. The incident occurred near Chengshan Jiao, China, close to 12:08 PM Singapore time. There have been no reports of environmental damage from the disaster, and the bunker vessel was not carrying any cargo.

For the Singaporean firm Consort, Jinglu Shipbuilding, based in China, built the 7,999 dwt PEARL KENZO. Its length is 115 meters, and its recorded top speed is 12 knots, per reports. On December 18, the vessel had a naming ceremony and transfer.

The China Maritime Safety Administration launched a search and rescue effort after the mishap. Eight crew members were reported missing when the fishing boat sank at the scene, and they have informed the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (the MPA for short) of this. On the other hand, the crew of the bunker ship escaped unscathed.

The bunker ship is still docked at Shidao off northern China, according to Chinese officials, who also stated that investigations into the event are still ongoing.
