MANILA, Philippines — A cargo vessel hit a stationary motor tanker off Batangas, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Thursday.
PCG said the allision occurred between cargo ship M/V Everwin 11 and motor tanker Oak Express on Monday (April 22).
An allision — as opposed to a collision, is when a vessel crashes into another boat that is not moving.
Oak Express was docked in Mabini town’s Landoor pier when MV Everwin 11 hit its port quarter or the left rear area.
“The primary contributing factor to the collision was identified as strong sea currents and winds, causing the said vessel to drag while maneuvering and collided with Mtkr Oak Express, resulting in dents, scratches, and punctured port quarter platings,” the PCG said in a statement.
As of Thursday, the PCG said MV Everwin 11 is still under the custody of the Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog.
There were no reports of significant damage or signs of an oil spill from either vessel, according to authorities.
Allision incidents in the West Philippine Sea hogged the headlines last year.
In October, a Marshall Islands-flagged vessel hit a stationary fishing boat, which led to the death of three Filipino fisherfolk.
