According to the Fujian Maritime Safety Administration, the vessel ran aground near the entrance of Luoyuan Bay, Fuzhou, over the weekend. A rescue operation was launched immediately after the vessel’s distress call with the Maritime Safety Administration sending a patrol vessel to manage local traffic. The ship was en route from Indonesia, to China.
Furthermore, two tugs began efforts to refloat the bulk carrier and two oil spill control vessels remained on standby to monitor for leaks.
After 12 hours of effort, the bulker was successfully refloated in the early hours of 18 February. Fortunately, all crew members were evacuated safely and no oil spill was reported.
The vessel is now anchored and is under the supervision of rescue ships, while authorities conduct inspections and investigate the cause of the incident.
