MANILA – Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac honored on Monday overseas Filipino workers, including seafarers, as they embody the country’s archipelagic identity and maritime strength.
In his message for the observance of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) this September, Cacdac cited the Filipino modern-day heroes for carrying with them the “strength of our nation and the hope of your communities.”
“The Philippines’ vast seas and our rich archipelagic identity have long defined who we are as a people. This legacy continues to live on through our modern-day heroes: our seafarers and migrant workers, who embody the skill, resilience, and dedication that make every Filipino proud,” Cacdac said.
He also acknowledged the sacrifices of Filipino workers at sea and abroad, including long journeys, months away from their families, and the challenges of serving in demanding conditions.
“On this occasion, we honor you and reaffirm our promise to ensure that your sacrifices are matched with dignity, protection, and opportunity,” he added.
The MANA Mo 2025 theme, “Nagkakaisang Kapuluan, Panatag na Karagatan” (United Archipelago, Secure Ocean), emphasizes the shared responsibility of Filipinos to safeguard the country’s maritime heritage and resources.
He said the occasion reminds every Filipino that “we are bound by a shared responsibility to care for our seas, to honor our heritage, and to stand together as one maritime nation”.
Cacdac, meanwhile, assured that the DMW will continue to provide the protection and support needed by the OFWs and their families, as he enjoins them to remain steadfast in building a united archipelago and a secure ocean towards a stronger, prouder, and more progressive maritime Philippines. (PNA)
