Coast Guard Rescues Five Crew Members Off Seogwipo

Five crew members fell overboard from a cargo ship passing south of the waters near Seogwipo, prompting the Coast Guard to urgently dispatch resources and rescue all individuals.

According to the Seogwipo Coast Guard Station, a report was received at approximately 4:47 p.m. on the 12th that five crew members had fallen into the sea from the cargo ship A (8,580 tons, 15 crew members) about 33 kilometers south of Seogwipo Port.

The Coast Guard immediately dispatched five patrol boats, two coastal rescue vessels, and a helicopter to the accident site after receiving the report and requested assistance from nearby vessels.

A Coast Guard helicopter arrived at the scene around 5:35 p.m. and began rescuing the five crew members, who were on a life raft, using a lifting device. The rescue was completed by approximately 5:52 p.m.

The rescued crew members were all foreign nationals and reported to be in good health with no major injuries.

The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the crew members’ fall into the sea.
