MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (PCG – CGDSWM) said it medically evacuated a 55-year-old Chinese man supposedly electrocuted aboard a ship on the Basilan Strait.
The Coast Guard District had gotten a distress call from a vessel identified as MV Min Hua 9 requesting the medical evacuation of the foreigner who was a crew member at around 10:20 a.m. on Jan. 6, the CGDSWM said in a statement on Wednesday.
It then deployed BRP Tubbataha (MRRV 4401) with the SWM’s medical team and nursing service sub-unit from Bengo Wharf in Zamboanga City at 11:06 a.m., reaching the MV Min Hua 9 at 11:30 a.m. around five nautical miles (9.26 kilometers) from the port.
“The patient was safely retrieved and brought back to Bengo Wharf at 12:07 p.m. on the same date, where he was turned over to the Bureau of Quarantine along with [the SWM medical team],” the CDGSWM explained.
“He was then rushed to the nearest hospital for further treatment,” it added.
