MANILA, Philippines — For alleged involvement in illegal recruitment, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) padlocked a maritime consultancy firm in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Wednesday.

Upon the orders of DMW Secretary Susan Ople, the department’s Migrant Workers Protection Bureau closed the office of JCB Success Maritime Consultancy Services.

Maritime union RMT, has lambasted the government ahead of the National Minimum Wage (NMW) increase, pointing out thousands of seafarers will not be eligible for the rise.
From April 1, the national minimum wage will rise by 9.7 percent from £9.50 to £10.42 for all over 23 year olds.
