Hernia is considered as one of the common seafarer’s illness as lifting heavy weight is a normal part of daily routine on board the vessel.

A five-year study by Dr Nicomedes Cruz, a Manila-based surgeon, of the causes of medical repatriation among Filipino seafarers revealed that inguinal hernia ranked fifth as the most common illness out of the 5,315 seafarers studied.

During his employment, he would be on duty more than 12 hours a day, resulting in extreme fatigue and exhaustion. On Oct. 26, 2018, while on duty, he felt cramps followed by severe back pain.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) barred a transiting passenger from leaving the country for carrying a fake Canadian visa.

Amevi Gbansouvi, 31, a Togolese national, was apprehended at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 2 on Tuesday for presenting a fake Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter Canada.
