The Japan Coast Guard has recommended negligent homicide charges for the USS Fitzgerald’s officer of the deck and the second officer of the boxship ACX Crystal after a deadly collision last year.

Shanghai Maritime Court has sold the 1997-built aframax tanker Amba Bhakti via an online auction on Taobao.

The vessel was abandoned by Indian owner Varun Shipping and detained by the court since 2016 at the requests of the ship’s crew due to unpaid salaries and by creditor China Shipping Industry due to a ship maintenance contract dispute.

Fire Contained on U.S.-Flagged Maersk Boxship

On Thursday night,, the U.S.-flagged container ship Maersk Kensington reported a container on fire in a cargo hold while en route from Oman to Suez. Maersk said that the crew reacted swiftly by releasing CO2 into the hold. All 26 crew members are safe and accounted for and the fire is reported to be contained.

Another Maersk Containership Catches Fire

U.S. flagged containership Maersk Kensington reported a fire in a cargo hold while en route from Salalah, Oman toward Suez. The fire is the second reported aboard a Maersk vessel this month.

The fire has been contained and all 26 crew members are reported safe and accounted for, according to A.P. Moller-Maersk.
