BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A freighter leaving the State Port ran aground this afternoon near the mouth of the Cape Fear River.

The US Coast Guard says it happened around 2 p.m.

The 600-foot cargo ship ran aground during low tide near Bald Head Island.

Captain Nikesh Rastogi, 43, from Mumbai, said he was contracted as part of a replacement crew for the offshore supply vessel Malaviya Twenty in February 2017.

The Indian-owned Malaviya Twenty has been detained in Great Yarmouth docks since it arrived in June 2016.

Capt Nikesh Rastogi was part of a 13-strong replacement crew for the ship contracted in February 2017.
