Asian shipowners urge ‘key worker’ status for seafarers

In its latest annual gathering, Asian Shipowners’ Association, chaired by the Maritime Industry of Australia chairman David Parmeter, called on governments to implement the recent IMO circular letter to ensure safe ship crew changes and travel amid the coronavirus outbreak

The association also vowed to support shipping’s carbon-free path despite the economic damage from the pandemic shockwave

MIAMI – A Filipino crew member aboard a Virgin Voyages ship died Friday night, May 22, the U.S. Coast Guard said. Police have boarded the ship to investigate.

The crew member, a 32-year-old man whose identity has not been disclosed, died aboard Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady, the Miami Herald reported.
